Meet Our 2020 - 2021 Team
Nina Mojares
Nina is a Senior from Freehold, New Jersey who is currently pre-law and is studying Communication in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. This is her fourth year on the team and her second year serving as captain. Her favorite Fuego tradition is surprising our new members by going to each of their dorm rooms and celebrating their invitation to the team.
Carolina de Armas
Carolina is a Senior from Ponce, Puerto Rico who is currently pursuing an English major with minors in Journalism and Creative Writing. This is her fourth year on the team and first year serving as captain. Her favorite Fuego memory is “the beginning of every Sunday practice; when everybody’s hair is a mess, eyes are half shut, and stomachs are growling. At those 12:00 pm practices, we spend almost half an hour just laying on the dance studio floor eating home-fries, bagels, and sipping coffee from Dunkin, laughing at each-others stories from the night before or from the night before that. These are the days when I feel most at home.”
Etienne Scaccino
Etienne is a senior from San Juan, Puerto Rico who is pursuing a pre-med track through a Sociology major in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. This is his fourth year on the team and first year as captain. "The marvelous memories I've made with this family have shaped me as a person, this team is a free-flowing fusion of talent, friendships, and culture that provides a safe place to do what we love and become who we truly desire".
Arturo Balaguer
Arturo is a senior from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, who is pursuing a pre-med track through a History major and Philosophy minor. It is his fourth year on the team and his first year serving as captain. His all-time favorite Fuego memory, aside from the time he spends outside the dance studio with his team, was rushing to the stage when judges announced that Fuego had won the ALC Annual Showdown Competition in the Spring of 2019.
Remi Garfinkle
Remi is a senior from Los Angeles, California who is currently studying Communication in the Morrissey School of Arts and Sciences. This is her third year on the team and second year on e-board, currently serving as head of fundraising and event planning. "One of the many reasons I love this team so much is because we are a family. I remember when my dog had passed away, I showed up late to practice and the entire team just embraced me and gave me so much love. They were the family I needed being so far away from home.”
Fiona Hanly
Fiona is a junior from Miami, Florida, who is pursuing a pre-med track through a Neuroscience major and Sociology minor in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. This is her third year on the team and her first year serving as captain. One of her favorite Fuego memories was performing the showdown set on the 2150 Quad, because "we came together and supported not only each other, but the entire dance community at BC."
Emily Browder
Emily is a junior from Chicago, Illinois who is currently majoring in History with a concentration in Identity, Inequality, and Justice in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. This is her third year on the team and first year on e-board, serving as email coordinator. Emily's favorite part of Fuego is the energy the team constantly brings to both the stage and campus overall.
Diego de Leon
Diego de Leon is a junior from The Bronx, New York who is currently studying Finance and Accounting for Finance in the Carroll School of Management. This is his third year on the team. His favorite part of Fuego is walking to practice and feeling the love and energy that everyone brings.
Carla Caputo
Carla is a junior who was born in Argentina and moved to Miami, Florida at the age of 10. She is pursuing a major in Communication and minor in Marketing through the Morrissey School of Arts and Sciences. This is her second year on the team. Her favorite Fuego memory was her initiation into the team, where she bonded with the whole team for the first time.
Franciel Guillen
Franciel is a junior from The Bronx, New York who is currently studying English in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. This is his second year on the team. His favorite thing about Fuego is that everyone is able to laugh and enjoy themselves without feeling the need to hold back.
Jan Xu Soltero
Jan Carlos Xu Soltero is a junior from Bayamón, Puerto Rico who is currently studying Finance in the Carroll School of Management. This is his second year on the team and first year on e-board, serving as co-treasurer. His favorite memory about Fuego so far has been the Rookie Showcase where it was his first opportunity to experience what it was like to perform in front of an audience. As he explains it, "there is no comparison to that feeling you get; that rush and energy channeling through your whole body."
Christe Cavalcanti
Christie is a sophomore from Marlborough, MA, who is currently studying Biology in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences on a pre-med track. This is her second year on the team and first year on e-board serving as co-social media director. Her favorite thing about Fuego is being pushed out of her comfort zone alongside such talented dancers who she is lucky to call her family, and the confidence she has gained as a result.
Alexandra Herrera
Alexandra is a sophomore from Caracas, Venezuela, who was raised in Santo Domingo, Madrid, San Diego and Washington DC. She is pursuing a Computer science major and Film minor in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. This is her second year on the team and first year serving as co-social media director. Her favorite things about Fuego besides the dancing and performing, are life long relationships and friendships she has made with other members of the team.
Jean Santos
Jean is a sophomore from San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is currently studying pursuing a pre-med track through a Neuroscience major in the Morrissey School of Arts and Sciences. This is his second year on the team. His favorite thing about Fuego is that he gets to dance frequently like he did in Puerto Rice and meet upperclassmen who can mentor him during his time at Boston College.
Isabella Nassar
Isabella is a sophomore who was born in Miami, Florida, but moved to Barranquilla, Colombia at the age of 13. She is currently studying Political Science in the Morrissey College of Arts and Sciences. This is her second year on the team. Her favorite thing about Fuego is how they have become like a second family to her and she loves sharing the stage with them.
Ashley Look
Ashley is a sophomore who was born and raised in Los Altos, California. She is currently a student in the Lynch School of Education and Human Development with a major in applied psychology and minors in cybersecurity and management and leadership. This is her second year on the team and first year on e-board serving as co-treasurer. Her favorite thing about Fuego is "all the hugs, all the love."
